How long does an application take to complete?

Our application takes approximately 30-40 minutes in total to complete.

Please note that our online application process is split into two parts:  The first part consists of a pre-qualification questionnaire and takes a few minutes to complete. Those who pass the pre-qualification questions will then move onto the second part of the online application process which is the actual application which takes approximately 25-35 minutes to complete.

If you have any trouble or questions with our online application process, please contact our Human Resources Department at jobs@deantrans.com or by phone at (517) 319-8353.

I don’t have a Commercial Driver License (CDL), can I still apply and be hired as a driver?

Yes! We provide all of the necessary training to attain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) through the State of Michigan. This training is paid and begins as soon as a new driver is hired. Our training process takes 4-6 weeks to complete.

What are your criminal history guidelines?

We take great care and concern for confidentiality and review an applicant’s entire work history and experience.

We are unable to accept any offenses related to the following categories: Assault, Drug-related Offenses, Weapons Offenses, Criminal Sexual Conduct, Indecent Exposure/Conduct, Solicitation, Prostitution or Immoral Acts, any crimes involving a minor including Child Endangerment/Child Abuse and Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor.  In addition, we are unable to accept any felonies due to the nature of the work we perform and who we serve.

We do accept certain misdemeanors not related to the abovementioned categories based on the nature and date of the offense.

Please note that it is important for all applicants to disclose their complete criminal history on an application.  This includes ordinance violations and misdemeanor and felony convictions.  Failure to disclose this information will result in an automatic disqualification with our company.

What are your driving history guidelines?

Our School Bus Attendant and Monitor positions as well as our Bus Washer positions do not require any driving experience, a valid license or a good driving record since these positions do not involve driving vehicles.

Our non-driving office positions posted on our Careers page (i.e., Administrative, Human Resources, Customer Service) also do not require any driving experience, a valid license or a good driving record since these positions do not involve driving vehicles.

All other positions posted on our Careers page (i.e., Dispatchers, Supervisors and Management and all driving positions listed) do require a valid Michigan driver’s license as driving company vehicles (both commercial and/or non-commercial) will be required. A standard Operator’s License is all that is needed to apply and be hired for any of these positions with our company; your license does not need to be a Chauffeur’s License or Commercial Driver License. In addition, we require candidates to have their Operator’s License for a minimum of 7 years and a good driving record in order to be considered for one of these positions.

The following citations or violations on a driving record will result in disqualification for all positions with our company that require driving: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs, Open Intoxicants in a Vehicle, Drug Crime, Careless/Reckless Driving, any license suspension within past 3 years of date of application, more than 2 points, more than one at-fault accident, citations for speeding 15 MPH or more over the limit and multiple moving violations within a defined short period of time.
